Do I stay the Legal Document Assistant of record?
Yes. Every document is prepared under your business name and stamped with your LDA registration number and county. Legalfina is the software behind you, not the LDA in front of the client.
What happens when a client asks me a legal question I can't answer?
Every question in the questionnaire carries General Legal Information written by a licensed attorney. You point the client to it instead of answering yourself, so you never cross into legal advice. If they want advice, we can connect them with an independent attorney.
Can I serve clients who don't speak English?
Yes. The questionnaire asks every question in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Korean, Arabic, Farsi and Urdu, so clients understand exactly what they are answering.
Which forms and case types are covered?
California family law: divorce and legal separation, custody and visitation, child and spousal support, restraining orders, paternity, income and expense declarations, schedules of assets and debts, plus local county forms. Wills and trusts as well. Ask us about anything else.
Can my non-LDA staff help clients through Legalfina?
Yes. Your intake staff can greet the client, start the file and read the questions aloud. Legalfina, a registered and bonded LDA business, handles the document preparation, and you review, stamp and file under your registration. You grow the front office without hiring another licensed LDA.
How much does Legalfina cost?
You only pay when your client files. Your first month is $0 per filing for as many filings as you want, and you keep all the profit. After that it is $100 per filing, with no subscription. For a limited time we also waive our usual $2,500 setup fee, so your co-brand with your logo and LDA license is set up free.
How do I get paid?
Two options. Set your own price and let Legalfina process the payment and send you the difference, or bill the client yourself and authorize the filing once you have been paid.
Will my clients know they are using Legalfina?
A basic co-brand will say Powered by Legalfina. We can build a co-brand for you at an additional cost that will remove that. However, we have found that clients like going through the LDA since it gives them a personal touch while using Legalfina since they can talk to a real human who can read the questions aloud and answer questions they are able to or show them online resources that help them answer each question if they get stuck.
Can Legalfina e-file for my clients?
Yes. Once you've reviewed and stamped the packet, we e-file it with the court on your client's behalf. We also help get the proof of service signed by the server and e-file that too, so the case keeps moving.
What if a client gets stuck halfway?
Their progress saves automatically. You see where they stopped in your dashboard and can send a reminder, or finish the rest with them in person.
