Section § 28085

Explanation

This law explains the rules for vehicle theft alarm systems in California. Vehicles can have an alarm that flashes lights, makes a sound, or both. However, the alarm cannot sound like a siren.

Any motor vehicle may be equipped with a theft alarm system which flashes the lights of the vehicle, or sounds an audible signal, or both, and which operates as follows:
(a)CA Vehicle Code § 28085(a) The system may flash any of the lights required or permitted on the vehicle.
(b)CA Vehicle Code § 28085(b) The system may sound an audible signal.
(c)CA Vehicle Code § 28085(c) No vehicle shall be equipped with a theft alarm system which emits the sound of a siren.
