Section § 24450

Explanation

If someone damages an aircraft and it could affect the plane's safety, they must either find and inform the owner or the person in charge by providing their name and address, showing ID if asked, or leave a note with their contact info and details of the incident. Additionally, they must quickly contact the nearest FAA safety representative.

Any person who causes damage to any aircraft that may reasonably be expected to affect the airworthiness of the aircraft shall do either of the following:
(a)CA Public Utilities Code § 24450(a) Locate and notify the owner or person in charge of the aircraft of his or her name and address, and upon being requested to do so by the owner of the aircraft or person in charge of the aircraft, present his or her driver’s license or pilot’s license for identification purposes.
(b)CA Public Utilities Code § 24450(b) Leave in a conspicuous place on the aircraft a written notice giving his or her name, address, and telephone number and a statement of the circumstances thereof, and, without unnecessary delay, notify the nearest safety representative of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Section § 24451

Explanation

This law says that if someone doesn't follow the rules outlined in Section 24550, they are committing a misdemeanor. If found guilty, the person could face up to six months in county jail, be fined up to $1,000, or both.

Any person failing to comply with the requirements of Section 24550 is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six months, or by a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.
