Explanation

This section explains that the law is officially called The Penal Code of California. It is organized into four main parts: Crimes and Punishments, Criminal Procedure, the functioning of State Prisons and County Jails, and Crime Prevention and Criminal Apprehension.

This Act shall be known as The Penal Code of California, and is divided into four parts, as follows:
  I.—OF CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS.
 II.—OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE.
III.—OF THE STATE PRISON AND COUNTY JAILS.
IV.—OF PREVENTION OF CRIMES AND APPREHENSION OF CRIMINALS.
