Section § 15001

Explanation

This law allows for building a memorial dedicated to California peace officers on the State Capitol grounds in Sacramento. The specific location for the memorial within these grounds will be chosen by a commission, which will consult with the Department of General Services and the State Office of Historic Preservation. The funding for this memorial should come from private donations.

(a)CA Penal Law Code § 15001(a) The construction of a memorial to California peace officers on the grounds of the State Capitol is hereby authorized. For purposes of this part, the grounds of the State Capitol are that property in the City of Sacramento bounded by Ninth, Fifteenth, “L,” and “N” Streets. The actual site for the memorial shall be selected by the commission after consultation with the Department of General Services and the State Office of Historic Preservation.
(b)CA Penal Law Code § 15001(b) Funds for the construction of the memorial shall be provided through private contributions for this purpose.

Explanation

This law states that ceremonies honoring peace officers, such as the dedication and any future memorial events, are to be organized by the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation, Inc.

Peace officer memorial ceremonies, including the dedication of the memorial and any subsequent ceremonies, shall be conducted by the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation, Inc.
