Section § 16000

Explanation

This law section defines the term "state of emergency" as being equivalent to the definitions provided in Section 8558 of the Government Code. This applies to both state and local emergencies.

As used in this chapter, “state of emergency” means a state of emergency or local emergency as defined in Section 8558 of the Government Code.

Section § 16001

Explanation

This law applies to all insurance companies that cover real or personal property in California. It also includes other types of insurers if the commissioner decides they should be involved in emergency disaster preparation and aid.

This chapter shall apply to all insurers insuring real or personal property in the state, and any other classes of insurers that the commissioner determines should participate in emergency disaster preparation and assistance under this chapter.

Section § 16002

Explanation

This law explains that the sole job of disaster assessment teams is to figure out the staffing and support needs that insurers will have to deal with expected claims after a disaster.

The purpose and function of the disaster assessment teams is solely to determine the staffing and support needs of insurers in handling anticipated claims.
