Healthy FamiliesFunds
Section § 12693.96
The Healthy Families Fund is a special fund in the State Treasury, continuously appropriated to a board for specific purposes. The board is responsible for managing this fund, which includes using state funds, federal funds, or family contributions. They can authorize the State Department of Health Services to transfer these funds as needed.
The implementation of this fund relies on federal participation according to Title XXI of the Social Security Act, and there must be state plan approval unless specified otherwise. This part of the law does not guarantee individual coverage for anyone.
Section § 12693.97
This law lets California's Department of Health Services and its board find ways to use charitable donations to get matching federal funds. The goal is to help private and non-profit organizations provide health coverage.
