Section § 12020

Explanation

This law explains who is responsible for enforcing certain fire safety regulations in California. It states that the chief and issuing authority in each area must enforce state fire safety laws and regulations set by the State Fire Marshal. Additionally, specific peace officers, as outlined in the Penal Code, can also enforce these rules while they are on duty.

The chief and the issuing authority, as defined in Sections 12003 and 12007, respectively, shall in their areas of jurisdiction enforce the provisions of this part and the regulations adopted by the State Fire Marshal pursuant to this part.
Any peace officer, as defined in Sections 830.1, 830.2, and subdivisions (a), (e), (k), and ( l) of Section 830.3 of the Penal Code, and those officers listed in Section 830.6 of the Penal Code while acting in the course and scope of their employment as peace officers may enforce the provisions of this part.
