ConstructionGeneral Provisions
Section § 9600
This law states that a mausoleum or columbarium can only be constructed or modified if the entire building meets specific minimum standards. These standards apply to both new buildings and any changes made to existing ones.
Even if a part of the building is used for something else, the whole structure must comply with these requirements. Any additions or changes to existing mausoleums or columbariums must also meet these standards.
Section § 9600.5
This law section allows the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau to create rules for building private mausoleums or columbariums. These rules must ensure several important construction standards like safety from earthquakes, using durable materials like granite, sealing crypts to stop leaks, allowing proper ventilation, and using fireproof materials.
Section § 9600.6
If you want to build a private mausoleum or columbarium, you must follow the construction methods and standards outlined in this chapter or those adopted by the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau.
Section § 9601
This law requires that all buildings used as mausoleums or columbariums must be constructed to meet Type I standards according to the Uniform Building Code, unless there are specific exceptions mentioned in the chapter.
Section § 9602
The plumbing systems in mausoleums and columbariums must follow the guidelines set out by the Uniform Plumbing Code, ensuring they meet the required plumbing standards.
