IndiansAdministration of Federal Funds
Section § 8200
This section of California law explains how state agencies can use federal money for the welfare of Native Americans in California. Depending on their focus, different departments manage these funds. The State Department of Health Services takes care of health needs like medical treatment and disease prevention. The State Department of Education handles funds for schools and educational programs. The State Department of Social Services focuses on helping older, sick, or poor Native Americans. These departments must follow any rules set by U.S. laws or the Secretary of the Interior when using these federal funds, ensuring it's done in a way that benefits Native Americans in the state.
Section § 8201
This law says that when federal law requires budget information before releasing funds, California state agencies can prepare and submit these budgets to the State Department of Finance for approval. After approval, the budgets are forwarded to the federal agency in charge. State agencies must then directly report to federal officers about how the funds were spent, and their officers and employees are responsible for correctly managing and reporting all expenditures.
