Section § 50750
This law states that every member of an election board must take an oath promising to perform their duties faithfully. The oath must be administered by an official who is authorized to give oaths.
Section § 50751
If the board of supervisors doesn't appoint an election board, then the voters who show up when polls open can choose the election board themselves.
Section § 50752
This law requires the election board to count and verify the votes. They must then certify the election results by issuing certificates to those elected. Afterward, the ballots must be sealed in an envelope and sent to the county elections official for record-keeping.
Section § 50753
This law allows voters to use a system called 'cumulative voting' when electing trustees. Voters can either give all their votes to one candidate or spread them out among multiple candidates. The total votes a voter can cast is determined by multiplying the number of trustees to be elected by the number of votes they are entitled to.
Section § 50754
The irrigation district's board of directors has the authority to vote on behalf of land owned by the district that was acquired through collectors' deeds.
Section § 50755
This law allows any eligible voter to question the eligibility of another person's vote. It is up to the election board to decide if the challenged person has the right to vote. Additionally, any election board member can give an oath as part of this process.
Section § 50756
The candidates who get the most votes win the election. The number of winners is based on how many positions are available to fill.
Section § 50757
If someone knowingly lies about their eligibility to vote in a district election, they'll face the same penalties as someone caught voting illegally, as stated in the Elections Code.
Section § 50758
If you become the new owner of a property after the most recent county tax records have been finalized, you or someone legally representing you can vote in the district election as long as you show proof that you own the property.
Section § 50759
This law states that in district elections, you can't vote by proxy unless you have a written document that gives you the authority to do so. This document must be acknowledged and certified in the same way as real estate documents and must be filed with the election board.
