Section § 20980

Explanation

The board of a district may change the district's name if it chooses to do so. Additionally, if a new district is created that shares the same name as another existing district, the board of the newer district must change its name by officially recording a resolution.

Whenever the board so determines it may, or in the event any district has been formed under the same name as that of another district, the board of the last formed district shall, by a resolution spread on its minutes change the name of the district.

Section § 20980.5

Explanation

This law allows the Palmdale Irrigation District to officially change its name to the Palmdale Water District.

The Palmdale Irrigation District may change its name pursuant to this chapter to the Palmdale Water District.

Section § 20980.6

Explanation

This law allows the Helix Irrigation District to officially change its name to the Helix Water District.

The Helix Irrigation District may change its name pursuant to this chapter to the Helix Water District.

Section § 20981

Explanation

This law requires that when a district's name is changed, certified copies of the official decision must be filed with the county recorder in each county impacted by the change and be sent to the appropriate department.

Certified copies of the resolution changing the name of the district shall be recorded in the office of the county recorder in each affected county and sent to the department.

Section § 20982

Explanation

This law says that when a district's name is changed, the new name becomes officially effective once the resolution is recorded. After that, the district will operate under the new name just like it did under the old one, with all the same responsibilities and powers.

The change of name shall become effective for all purposes upon the recordation of the resolution after which the district shall perform all functions, exercise all powers, be responsible for its obligations and in all respects conduct its affairs under its name as changed with the same force and effect as under the name by which it was designated upon its formation.
