Section § 55330
This law allows a district to supply water to its residents for various purposes like irrigation, household use, industrial needs, and fire protection. The district can use its own facilities or other available systems, including private and mutual water companies, for this purpose. Additionally, the district can work on developing and conserving water supplies to support these activities.
Section § 55331
This law gives the district the authority to take any actions needed to achieve the goals set out in that part of the water management laws.
Section § 55332
The district has the authority to hire staff like a general manager, auditor, treasurer, and other necessary officers or employees. They can also hire attorneys and engineers. These individuals work under the direction of the board and can be let go at any time.
Section § 55333
This law allows the district to create and enforce rules needed for its management, the development and use of its water facilities, and any other district purposes that don't conflict with state laws.
Section § 55333.5
This law allows a school district to destroy certain records by following specific procedures outlined in another part of the Government Code.
Section § 55334
If someone breaks a rule or law set by a district, it's considered a misdemeanor. This can lead to a fine up to $1,000, jail time up to six months, or both.
Section § 55335
In California, this law allows water districts to obtain water from various sources like underground water basins, imported water, streams, waste water, and storm water. They can also treat and clean saline water and sewage, and then store, distribute, and sell the resulting clean water and byproducts. Additionally, districts can build and maintain the necessary infrastructure, such as pipelines, reservoirs, and treatment plants, to support these activities.
Section § 55335.5
This law section allows a district to build, maintain, and run sewage systems, as well as manage the waste products in a legal manner. The district is also allowed to take any necessary actions to effectively carry out these responsibilities.
Section § 55336
This law allows a water district to sell excess water to anyone outside its area if there's more water than its local customers need. They can also sell water in emergencies as long as the governing body finds it necessary.
Section § 55337
This law allows districts within Ventura County to build, maintain, and operate recreational facilities alongside their dams and reservoirs. They can set rules and charge reasonable fees for public use. The money collected can be used to cover operating costs, pay off debts, save for debt repayments, and fund facility improvements or expansions.
Section § 55338
This law requires the Department of Corrections and the Los Angeles County Waterworks District No. 4 to make a contract for providing water to the California State Prison in Los Angeles County. This water comes from the Antelope Valley-East Kern Water Agency.
The prison must primarily use this supplied water but can rely on the Antelope Valley groundwater basin as a backup or in emergencies. Actions related to the water supply agreements described are exempt from certain environmental regulations.
Section § 55339
This section allows a district to make a contract with any state agency to fund improvements. However, the contract cannot last more than 30 years. If the contract creates a debt or liability that is more than the district's yearly income, it must be paid off using money from standby charges, as stated in Section 55501.5.
