Section § 80850

Explanation

Starting January 1, 2035, the department can no longer make new contracts to buy electrical power. However, this doesn't change their ability to manage existing contracts or any current bond obligations from before that date.

(a)CA Water Code § 80850(a) On or after January 1, 2035, the department shall not contract under this division for the purchase of electrical power.
(b)CA Water Code § 80850(b) This section does not affect the authority of the department to administer contracts entered into before that date or any of the department’s outstanding bond obligations.
