The sum of twenty million dollars ($20,000,000) shall be available for appropriation by the Legislature from the fund to the department for grants for canal lining and related projects necessary to reduce Colorado River water use pursuant to the California Colorado River Water Use Plan adopted by the Colorado River Board of California.

Section § 79568

Explanation

This section allows the California Legislature to allocate $50 million to the Wildlife Conservation Board. The funds are meant to buy, protect, and restore land and water resources to meet California’s regulatory obligations related to its share of water from the Colorado River. However, this money can't be used to cover the regulatory responsibilities of private companies. Additionally, any land purchased with this money must be bought from sellers who are willing to sell.

No money allocated pursuant to this section may be used to supplant or pay for the regulatory mitigation obligations of private parties under state or federal law.
(b)CA Water Code § 79568(b) All real property acquired pursuant to this section shall be acquired from willing sellers.
