Chapter 7CALFED Bay-Delta Program
Section § 79550
This law section describes how $825 million is allocated for various projects under the CALFED Bay-Delta Program. Out of this, $50 million is designated for planning and feasibility studies related to surface water storage.
An additional $75 million is for specific water conveyance facilities, and $70 million is for Delta levee restoration. $180 million is set aside for improving water supply reliability, favoring long-term water purchase contracts. Another $180 million is allocated for ecosystem restoration, with a portion specifically for aiding farmers in this effort.
A sum of $90 million goes towards watershed program implementation. Finally, $180 million is dedicated to urban and agricultural water conservation and efficiency projects.
Section § 79551
This law section requires that any funding provided under this chapter must include money for independent scientific review, monitoring, and evaluation of how effective a project or program is.
Section § 79552
This law requires that any project funded under this chapter must align with the CALFED Programmatic Record of Decision, ensuring that financial and operational plans follow the established guidelines for consistent and balanced execution.
Section § 79553
This law section states that projects offering multiple benefits across different CALFED program areas should be prioritized. Additionally, it limits administrative expenses to no more than 5% of the total funds available from this chapter.
Section § 79554
This law states that any real estate bought with funds specified in certain parts of Section 79550 must be purchased only from people willing to sell their property.
Section § 79555
This law mandates that starting from the fiscal year 2004-05, at least 50% of the funding for acquiring water under a specific section must be used for long-term commitments. This includes buying long-term water purchase contracts, acquiring permanent water rights, and covering related costs.
