Lighting EquipmentVehicles Exempted
Section § 25800
This section clarifies that certain equipment classified as 'special mobile equipment' is exempt from the usual rules that apply to regular vehicles. Instead, it follows different guidelines outlined in other specific sections, such as Sections 24254, 25803, 25950, and Article 12 starting with Section 25500.
Section § 25801
This law outlines when certain vehicle lighting and equipment rules do not apply. Specifically, it says that the listed lighting provisions don't apply to special construction or maintenance vehicles, like trucks with snowplows or sanding tools when they're being used for those purposes. However, if these trucks and automobiles are used without such equipment for normal driving, the rules do apply. Additionally, another section's rules (Section 25803) do apply to these specialized vehicles.
Section § 25802
This California law explains that certain vehicle regulations don’t apply to logging vehicles or vehicles not designed to transport people or goods, which only occasionally operate on highways. However, these vehicles must still follow several other specific safety-related laws, including those related to vehicle operation, equipment standards, and safety requirements.
Section § 25803
This law specifies lighting and reflective requirements for certain vehicles that don't already have headlamps, rear lights, or reflectors. If these vehicles are on the road at night, they need a red light at the back visible from 500 feet and a white light at the front also visible from 500 feet. They must have an amber reflector at the front left and a red one at the back left, both mounted at specific heights and visible from 500 feet when another vehicle's headlights shine on them.
If the vehicle or its load is over 100 inches wide, it needs an amber light on the left side that's visible from all sides during the night. During the day, a red or orange flag or cloth at least 18 inches square must be displayed on the vehicle's left side.
Section § 25804
If you have a vehicle that was made before January 1, 1946, its original lighting equipment doesn't have to follow current lighting regulations if you mainly use the vehicle for historical exhibitions.
Section § 25805
This law states that if you're towing a forklift truck at the end of a line of vehicles on the highway, it needs certain lights. It must have a stop lamp and turn signals. If you're driving at night, it needs a taillamp, a red reflector at the back, and clearance lamps if it's wider than 80 inches.
Section § 25806
This law states that ambulances and firetrucks being used just for showing to potential buyers or being delivered to a buyer don't have to follow certain rules about having warning lights and sirens, which are usually applied to these vehicles. However, when they are on the road, their warning lights must be either removed or covered, and the siren controls must be disabled.
