Section § 36500

Explanation

This law states that certain lighting and equipment regulations don't apply to farm vehicles (implements of husbandry) like they do to other vehicles. Instead, these farm vehicles must follow a different set of rules outlined in specific sections of the vehicle code, including sections dealing with lighting and safety equipment.

The provisions of Sections 24012, 24250, 24251, 24400 to 24404, inclusive, and Articles 3 (commencing with Section 24600), 4 (commencing with Section 24800), 5 (commencing with Section 24950), 6 (commencing with Section 25100), 9 (commencing with Section 25350), 11 (commencing with Section 25450), and 13 (commencing with Section 25650) of Chapter 2 of Division 12 shall not apply to implements of husbandry. Such vehicles shall be subject to the provisions of Sections 24254, 24615, 25803, and 25950, and Article 12 (commencing with Section 25500) of Chapter 2 of Division 12.

Section § 36505

Explanation

This law says that farm tractors and certain trailers must follow specific lighting requirements when they are operated at night. They are not allowed exceptions from the rules about vehicle lights found in Sections 24400 and 25100.

Farm tractors as defined in Section 36015, and trailers displaying an identification plate, as provided for in Section 36115 or 36130, when operated during darkness shall not be exempted from the provisions of Sections 24400 and 25100.

Section § 36508

Explanation

After July 1, 1970, any farming equipment meant to move at 25 miles per hour or less cannot be sold in California without having a slow-moving vehicle emblem. This emblem, as outlined in Section 24615, must be added by the manufacturer and kept on the equipment when it's used on public roads.

After July 1, 1970, no new implement of husbandry designed or intended by the manufacturer to be operated or moved at a speed not in excess of 25 miles per hour shall be sold in this state unless it is equipped by the manufacturer with a slow-moving vehicle emblem as prescribed by Section 24615, and such an emblem shall thereafter be displayed and maintained on such implement of husbandry while the implement is able to be operated upon a public highway.

Section § 36509

Explanation

In California, farm vehicles and equipment known as implements of husbandry, or any vehicles escorting or towing them, can use flashing amber warning lights or turn signals. These lights should be used if the vehicle needs a 'slow moving vehicle' emblem or if its size or speed might be a hazard on the highway. Additionally, if the load is more than 120 inches wide, the vehicle must use flashing amber lights or turn signals, or display red flags during daylight, to alert other drivers.

(a)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(a) An implement of husbandry, a farm vehicle, or any vehicle escorting or towing an implement of husbandry or farm vehicle, may display flashing amber warning lamps or flashing amber turn signals:
(1)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(a)(1) When the vehicle is required to display a “slow moving vehicle” emblem as defined in Section 24615.
(2)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(a)(2) When the width, length, height, or speed of the vehicle may cause a hazard to other traffic on the highway.
(b)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(b) An implement of husbandry, a farm vehicle, or any vehicle towing an implement of husbandry or farm vehicle, when the load upon the vehicle exceeds 120 inches in width, shall display either:
(1)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(b)(1) Flashing amber warning lamps.
(2)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(b)(2) Flashing amber turn signals.
(3)CA Vehicle Code § 36509(b)(3)  During daylight hours, red flags, each of which shall be not less than 16 inches square, mounted at the left and right outer extremities of the vehicle or load whichever has the greater horizontal dimension.

Section § 36510

Explanation

This law states that farm vehicles, known as implements of husbandry, don't have to follow regular stopping distance rules. However, if these vehicles can't stop within 32 feet when going 15 miles per hour, they shouldn't be driven faster than the speed that allows stopping within 32 feet.

Implements of husbandry are not subject to stopping distance requirements contained in Section 26454, but if any such vehicle cannot be stopped within 32 feet from an initial speed of 15 miles per hour, it shall not be operated at a speed in excess of that permitting a stop in 32 feet.

Section § 36515

Explanation

This law states that the rules about having windshields, as mentioned in Section 26700, do not apply to vehicles used in farming or agriculture, known as implements of husbandry.

The provisions of Section 26700 relating to windshields shall not apply to implements of husbandry.

Section § 36520

Explanation

This law states that the requirements for windshield wipers do not apply to tools and machinery used in farming, known as implements of husbandry.

The provisions of Section 26706 relating to windshield wipers shall not apply to implements of husbandry.
