Courtesy Signs
Section § 1970
This law allows local authorities to put up signs recognizing the sponsors of the Adopt-A-Riverway Program on highways in their area. These signs have to follow existing rules about signs.
Before placing these courtesy signs, the local authority must approve the plan by a majority vote. The plan should detail where the signs will be placed and confirm that they won’t harm the area’s environment.
The signs must say 'Adopt-A-Riverway' at the top and include the sponsor's name or logo, which the sponsor has to pay for. The text and logos on these signs have to be large and readable.
Section § 1975
If you donate at least $5,000 each year to the Adopt-A-Riverway Fund, the Department of Food and Agriculture may give you a courtesy sign. You can choose the county and even specify the location for the sign.
They can work with local authorities to manage the sign's production, placement, and upkeep. Expenses for these signs are covered by the fund.
Section § 1978
This California law allows county officials to put up signs saying “Where We Honor Veterans” on any state or county highway in their jurisdiction, as long as they have the approval of the county board of supervisors. If the sign is on a state highway, county officials must get approval from the Department of Transportation before putting it up.
