Chapter 5.5Federal Aid for Metropolitan Transportation Planning
Section § 2230
Section § 2231
This law explains that California is participating in a federal program from the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1973, which provides funds for transportation planning in urban areas. The law authorizes various state and local government bodies, like city councils and regional planning agencies, to take necessary actions to obtain these federal funds and ensure they are used as intended.
Section § 2232
This section defines the term "Transportation Planning and Development Account" as it is used in this chapter, referring to the account created within the State Transportation Fund, according to another specific section of the Public Utilities Code.
Section § 2233
This law explains how federal funds for transportation planning are handled in California. These funds, received under a specific United States Code section, must be shown in the state's transportation budget. When the state gets reimbursed, the money goes into the State Highway Account and is then credited to the Transportation Planning and Development Account as both an expense and a reimbursement. The money is constantly available for allocation by the commission to metro transportation planning organizations to support metropolitan planning activities as authorized by federal law.
Section § 2234
This law requires the department to create procedures and take necessary actions to ensure they follow all relevant laws and regulations.
