To the extent permitted by federal and state law, a federally recognized Native American tribe shall be eligible for federal funding for a transportation project and may be the lead agency for a transportation project that receives federal funding.

This statute allows federally recognized Native American tribes to qualify for federal funding to support transportation projects. Additionally, these tribes can take the lead agency role when managing a transportation project funded by federal money, as long as this is permitted by both federal and state law.
