It is the intent of the Legislature that the department develop a California Indian Heritage Center for cultural preservation, learning and exchange, land stewardship, and a place to engage all visitors in celebrating the living cultures of California tribes.

The Legislature wants the department to create a California Indian Heritage Center. This center will focus on preserving and celebrating the cultures of California tribes. It will also be a place for cultural exchange, learning, and taking care of the land, welcoming all visitors to engage with the tribes' living traditions.
