Section § 80146

Explanation

The law allocates $290 million for improving regional water sustainability, specifically focusing on drought and groundwater projects. (a)CA Public Resources Code § 80146(a) The sum of two hundred ninety million dollars ($290,000,000) shall be available, upon appropriation by the Legislature, for drought and groundwater investments to achieve regional sustainability. Expenditure of these funds may include planning, design, and implementation projects through competitive grants and loans for investments in groundwater recharge with surface water, stormwater, recycled water, and other conjunctive use projects, and projects to prevent or clean up contamination of groundwater that serves as a source of drinking water.
(b)CA Public Resources Code § 80146(b) Of the funds made available pursuant to this section, fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) shall be available pursuant to Chapter 10 (commencing with Section 79770) of Division 26.7 of the Water Code for the purposes described in Section 79775 of the Water Code.

Section § 80147

Explanation

This law section states that $100 million can be used, once the Legislature approves, under specific parts of the Water Code, but there's an exception to one provision of the Water Code for loans or grants.

Out of this, up to $20 million is designated specifically for the State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program run by the Department of Food and Agriculture.

(a)CA Public Resources Code § 80147(a) The sum of one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000) shall be available, upon appropriation by the Legislature, pursuant to Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 79765) of Division 26.7 of the Water Code, except that the provisions of Section 79143 of the Water Code shall not apply to a loan or grant awarded under this section.
(b)CA Public Resources Code § 80147(b) Of the funds made available pursuant to this section, up to twenty million dollars ($20,000,000) shall be available for the State Water Efficiency and Enhancement Program administered by the Department of Food and Agriculture.
