Section § 80140

Explanation

This law sets aside $250 million, once the California Legislature approves it, to be used for specific water-related purposes identified in another section of the Water Code. Out of this total, $30 million is specifically earmarked for grants aimed at regional water projects in the San Joaquin River area. These projects should diversify local water sources by providing surface water to communities relying on polluted groundwater, cut back on municipal groundwater pumping, and support both agricultural and city water supplies.

(a)CA Public Resources Code § 80140(a) The sum of two hundred fifty million dollars ($250,000,000) shall be available, upon appropriation by the Legislature, for the purposes described in Chapter 5 (commencing with Section 79720) of Division 26.7 of the Water Code.
(b)CA Public Resources Code § 80140(b) Of the funds authorized by subdivision (a), thirty million dollars ($30,000,000) shall be available for grants to regional water supply projects within the San Joaquin River hydrologic unit that diversify local water supplies by providing local surface water to communities that are dependent on contaminated groundwater, reduce municipal groundwater pumping, and benefit agricultural and municipal water supplies.
