Section § 13050

Explanation

This law states that once the county's board of supervisors approves a district board, an election must occur every two years on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. This starts in the first odd-numbered year after the district board is formed.

After the authorization of a district board by the board of supervisors, a general district election shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in odd-numbered years, commencing with the first odd-numbered year following the formation of the district board.

Section § 13050.5

Explanation

This section states that unless specified otherwise, districts governed by this division must follow the rules outlined in the Uniform District Election Law.

Except as otherwise provided in this division, districts governed by this division are subject to the provisions of the Uniform District Election Law.

Section § 13051

Explanation

The board has the authority to call a special election whenever they decide.

A special election may be called by the board to be held at any time.

Section § 13052

Explanation

This law states that the hours during which polling places are open for a special district election are determined by the district's board.

The hours during which the polls shall be opened at any special district election shall be as established by the board.

Section § 13053

This law section states that notices for elections need to be given following the same procedures as for county elections, as closely as possible.

Section § 13058

Section § 13060

Explanation

This law explains how the terms for district board members are decided. In the first election, the top two vote-getters are elected for four-year terms, and those who come in third and fourth get two-year terms. After this initial election, all district board members, except for one specific member, will serve four-year terms or until their replacement is elected or appointed.

In the first district board election the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for four years, the candidates which are elected receiving the third and fourth highest number of votes shall be elected for two years. After the first district board election the term of office of all district board members, except for the supervisorial member, shall be four years, or until the election or appointment and qualification of his successor.

Section § 13062

Explanation

For a proposition to be approved, it must receive more than half of the votes cast by voters.

A majority of the votes cast shall be required to approve a proposition.
