Chapter 6Audiometrists
Section § 1685
This section allows cities, counties, and school districts to hire school audiometrists. These audiometrists must be registered with the State Department of Health Services and meet their qualifications.
The law ensures that hearing tests in schools are conducted by qualified personnel and comply with standards set by the State Department. Such tests can be given to school and preschool children at school or other approved locations with qualified staff.
Section § 1686
This law explains that the State Department of Health Services will issue registration certificates to school audiometrists and supervisors of health, following certain sections in the Education Code. They decide what qualifications are needed to test schoolchildren's hearing.
If a candidate has completed the necessary training in audiology and audiometry at a recognized university or college, they can get their certificate without any more exams. A fee, capped at $10, is required for the certificate, which is calculated based on the cost of issuing the registration.
