Section § 2850

Explanation

After a district is officially formed, the board of supervisors has 30 days to appoint a board of trustees. This board should have between five and nine members to manage the district. Later on, the board of supervisors can adjust the number of trustees, but it must always stay between five and nine, as recommended by the current board of trustees.

Within 30 days after incorporation the board of supervisors shall appoint a board of trustees, consisting of not less than five nor more than nine members to act as the governing body of the district. At any time after the appointment of the initial board of trustees the board of supervisors may, at the request of the existing board of trustees of the district, increase or decrease the number of members of the board of trustees, but such board shall under no circumstances consist of less than five nor more than nine members.

Section § 2851

Explanation

Members of the district board are appointed by the board of supervisors and serve at their discretion. They don't get a salary but can be reimbursed for travel and other necessary expenses while doing their official duties. Instead of detailing individual expenses, the board can choose to give up to $100 per meeting to cover such expenses. However, these reimbursements must comply with specific government codes related to expenses.

The members of the district board shall hold office at the pleasure of the board of supervisors. They shall serve without compensation, but shall be allowed their necessary traveling and other expenses incurred in performance of their official duties. In lieu of expenses, the district board may, by resolution, provide for the allowance and payment to each member of the board of a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100) as expenses incurred in attending each business meeting of the board. Reimbursement for these expenses is subject to Sections 53232.2 and 53232.3 of the Government Code.

Section § 2852

Explanation

The district board has the authority to take necessary actions to eliminate pests identified in a petition that led to the creation of the district. However, their actions are under the oversight of city or other relevant public authorities.

The district board may take all necessary or proper steps for the extermination of the pest or pests mentioned in the petition for the organization of the district, subject to the control of city or other public authorities having jurisdiction in the matter.
