Section § 9525
The building department in each city or city-county area is responsible for making sure that building-related laws and rules are followed. This includes overseeing the construction, alteration, or erection of buildings. The term "building department" refers to the group or person in charge of this task.
Section § 9526
This law states that within a county, but not inside city limits, the county workers responsible for enforcing building rules must also enforce the specific parts detailed in this section.
Section § 9527
This law allows cities and counties in California to choose a specific department or officer to enforce any parts of the health and safety code. They can do this through a local law or ordinance.
Section § 9528
This law states that if a city doesn’t have a specific department or officer to enforce certain rules, then the county where that city is located must take over enforcement. If the county also lacks a designated department or officer, the responsibility falls to the county engineer. If there’s no county engineer, the county surveyor is in charge of enforcement.
