The Organization and Government of CourtsLos Angeles County
Section § 72708
This law states that any legal proceedings that used to be handled by the Municipal Court in the Los Angeles Judicial District before January 21, 2000, are now under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Section § 72709
This law states that the salaries and benefits of official court reporters are to be financed from the Reporters’ Salary Fund.
Section § 72710
If a court orders it, the daily fees and benefits for temporary official court reporters are paid from the Reporter's Salary Fund.
Section § 72711
If you're involved in a court case, any fees you have to pay for the services of court reporters are paid to the court clerk and go into the Reporters' Salary Fund. These fees cover the reporters who create transcripts of what's said during court proceedings.
For any written transcripts of court testimony, it's usually the parties in the case who pay, unless the court orders those fees to be paid by the Trial Court Operations Fund. But for felony cases, the transcription fees always come from the Trial Court Operations Fund, not the Reporters' Salary Fund.
Section § 72711.5
This law section specifies that fees for court reporting and transcriptions, whether done electronically or by a court reporter, must be paid by those involved in a court case. These fees are given to the court clerk and placed into the Reporters' Salary Fund. If allowed by law, transcription fees might also be paid from the Trial Court Operations Fund, except in felony cases, where they always come from the Trial Court Operations Fund.
Section § 72712
This law sets up a special fund called the Reporters’ Salary Fund, allocating $750,000 from the court's revenue. It ensures that each month, shares of the court's income, such as fines, forfeitures, and fees, from cities in the former Los Angeles Judicial District and the county, are deducted proportionately to maintain the $750,000 in the fund. These deductions cover costs related to electronic recording of court proceedings, equipment, and supplies, excluding law library fees.
Section § 72713
This law states that if the Reporters’ Salary Fund doesn't have enough money, the remaining amount needed will be paid from the Trial Court Operations Fund. Additionally, the county treasurer will hold the money for the Reporters’ Salary Fund, and the county auditor will be responsible for paying out funds from it.
