Section § 67940

Explanation

The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission is a transportation planning agency specifically for Santa Cruz County, and it operates independently of the state government. It manages regional transportation planning and development within the county.

This commission aligns with a previous version established by law for regional transportation purposes.

The governing body consists of five members from the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, one appointed member from each city in the county, and three members from the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District.

Alternates can be appointed for regular members to participate in meetings if the regular member is absent or unable to attend.

(a)CA Government Code § 67940(a) The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission is hereby created, as a local area transportation planning agency, and not as part of the executive branch of state government, to provide regional transportation planning and development for the area of Santa Cruz County. (b)CA Government Code § 67940(b) The governing body shall be composed of all five members of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, one member for each of the cities in the county, appointed by each city, and three members appointed by the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District.
(c)CA Government Code § 67940(c) The appointing authority, for each regular member it appoints, and the board of supervisors for each of its members, may appoint an alternate member to serve in the place of the regular member when the regular member is absent or disqualified from participating in a meeting of the governing body.

Section § 67941

Explanation

This law gives the commission authority to manage transportation projects in Santa Cruz County, including acquiring land through eminent domain. However, they need local government approval before starting such acquisitions. The commission can also hire services to carry out their tasks.
