Section § 7550

Explanation

If a state or local agency uses non-employees to prepare any documents or reports, and it costs over $5,000, they must include the contract and subcontract numbers and amounts in a separate section of the report. This applies when non-agency workers do the work.

If there are multiple documents involved, the report can also note that the total contract amount covers all of them.

(a)CA Government Code § 7550(a) Any document or written report prepared for or under the direction of a state or local agency, that is prepared in whole or in part by nonemployees of the agency, shall contain the numbers and dollar amounts of all contracts and subcontracts relating to the preparation of the document or written report; if the total cost for the work performed by nonemployees of the agency exceeds five thousand dollars ($5,000). The contract and subcontract numbers and dollar amounts shall be contained in a separate section of the document or written report.
(b)CA Government Code § 7550(b) When multiple documents or written reports are the subject or product of the contract, the disclosure section may also contain a statement indicating that the total contract amount represents compensation for multiple documents or written reports.

Section § 7550.1

Explanation

This law requires state agencies in California to look for ways to cut costs when creating reports. Agencies should especially consider avoiding unnecessary and costly additions like color graphics, flashy photographs, fancy bindings, and expensive paper.

In an effort to reduce the cost of preparing state reports, a state agency shall, when preparing a report, consider cost reduction options, including, but not limited to, using unnecessary and expensive color graphics, color photographs, bindings, and paper.

Section § 7550.6

Explanation

This law states that until June 30, 1995, local educational agencies didn't have to prepare or submit any written reports under a certain chapter of the Penal Code. This means that any requirements to provide such reports were temporarily paused during this period.

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, until June 30, 1995, no local educational agency shall be required to prepare or to submit any written report pursuant to Chapter 1.2 (commencing with Section 628) of Title 15 of Part 1 of the Penal Code.
