RegistrationReimbursable Voter Outreach Costs
Section § 2130
This law ensures that counties in California get repaid for the money they spend on voter registration activities. The state government, with input from the Secretary of State and the Controller, comes up with a formula to figure out how much each county should be reimbursed. Counties need to send in their reimbursement claims to the Controller by February 15 for costs from the previous fiscal year.
Section § 2131
This law allows the Secretary of State to give grants to local election officials, nonprofit organizations, and unincorporated groups. These grants are for two main purposes: First, to run programs that help educate and reach out to voters, following the Help America Vote Act of 2002. Second, to improve voting access for people with disabilities, also complying with the same Act. The funds for these initiatives come from specific sections of the federal Help America Vote Act.
