Section § 66750

Explanation

This law section defines two key terms for a particular chapter: A 'home campus' is the college where a student is officially enrolled, while a 'host campus' is the college that the student wants to attend temporarily.

For purposes of this chapter, the following definitions apply:
(a)CA Education Code § 66750(a) “Home campus” means the campus at which the student is matriculated.
(b)CA Education Code § 66750(b) “Host campus” means the campus to which the student seeks access.

Section § 66751

Explanation

This law allows students enrolled in a California Community College, California State University, or University of California to take one class per term at a different system without needing to formally apply or pay extra fees, as long as space is available and both campuses agree. The student will also get the same instructional support as regular students in that class.

Any student enrolled in any campus of the California Community Colleges, the California State University, or the University of California who meets the requirements of Section 66752 may enroll without formal admission and, except as provided in Section 66753, payment of additional fees, in a maximum of one course per academic term at a campus of either of the other systems on a space available basis at the discretion of the appropriate campus authorities on both campuses. A student enrolled in a course pursuant to this chapter shall be provided access to necessary instructional support services at the host campus in the same manner as students regularly enrolled in the course.

Section § 66752

Explanation

This law says that students at California Community Colleges, California State University, or University of California can join a program if they meet a few criteria. They need to have finished at least one term at their main campus and be taking at least six units there currently.

Also, they must have a minimum grade average of 2.0, similar to a grade of C, and pay the required tuition or fees for the term they want to join this program.

Lastly, the student must be academically prepared for the course they want to take at another campus, as confirmed by that campus.

A student is qualified to participate in the program established by this chapter if he or she is enrolled in any campus of the California Community Colleges, the California State University, or the University of California and meets the following requirements:
(a)CA Education Code § 66752(a) The student has completed at least one term at the home campus as a matriculated student and is taking at least six units at the home campus during the current term.
(b)CA Education Code § 66752(b) The student has attained a grade point average of 2.0 (grade of C) for work completed.
(c)CA Education Code § 66752(c) The student has paid appropriate tuition or fees, or both, required by the home campus for the academic term in which the student seeks to cross-enroll.
(d)CA Education Code § 66752(d) The student has the appropriate academic preparation, as determined by the host campus, consistent with the standard applied to currently enrolled students, to enroll in the course in which the student seeks to enroll.

Section § 66752.5

Explanation

This section clarifies that courses not funded by the state, like extension and summer session courses, are exempt from the rules outlined in this chapter.

Courses that are not state-supported, including extension and summer session courses, are not subject to this chapter.

Section § 66753

Explanation

This law requires the leaders of California's public college systems to create a process to verify if a student has met certain eligibility, residency, fee, financial aid, and health requirements at their home campus. If verified, this can enable easier cross-enrollment at other campuses within the system.

The campus where the student wants to enroll may ask for extra information and charge a fee to cover administrative costs, but this fee should not exceed the actual cost of processing. Students who register through this program won't have to go through the usual enrollment services.

(a)Copy CA Education Code § 66753(a)
(1)Copy CA Education Code § 66753(a)(1) The Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, the Chancellor of the California State University, and the President of the University of California shall establish procedures so that a student meeting the requirements of Section 66752 may be certified by the home campus as to eligibility, residence, fee, financial aid, and health status.
(2)CA Education Code § 66753(a)(2) The host campus may require the applicant to submit additional information as needed. The host campus may charge participating students an administration fee, not to exceed an amount sufficient for the campus to recover the full amount of the administrative costs it incurs under this chapter.
(b)CA Education Code § 66753(b) A student enrolled pursuant to this chapter shall be exempt from participation in the matriculation services described in Article 1 (commencing with Section 78210) of Chapter 2 of Part 48.

Section § 66753.5

Explanation

This law explains that when a student enrolls in a course at another campus (called the host campus), that enrollment doesn't count in the host campus's student numbers or budget calculations. Instead, only the student's home campus gets to count the classes the student takes directly at the home campus in their enrollment numbers.

The enrollment of a student at a host campus pursuant to this chapter shall not be counted in the calculation of headcount or full-time equivalent student enrollment at the host campus. The home campus may count in the calculation of headcount or full-time equivalent student enrollment only those units for which the student is enrolled at the home campus.

Section § 66754

Explanation

This section states that the chapter it belongs to began to be in effect starting with the fall term of 1995.

This chapter shall become operative commencing with the fall 1995 term.
