Section § 66350

Explanation

This section is simply naming a specific legislative act. It's called the Social Responsibility Business Leadership Initiative Act of 2003 and can be referred to by that name.

This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the Social Responsibility Business Leadership Initiative Act of 2003.

Section § 66351

Explanation

The California Legislature emphasizes the importance of ethics in business for the state's economic health. Corporate wrongdoings harm long-term economic stability. Universities in California have the chance to nurture business leaders who prioritize ethics and social responsibility. Therefore, the Legislature proposes the Social Responsibility Business Leadership Initiative to equip business graduates with skills in corporate responsibility and enhance state productivity.

The Legislature finds and declares all of the following:
(a)CA Education Code § 66351(a) Ethics in business are vital to the economic well-being of the state.
(b)CA Education Code § 66351(b) Corporate malfeasance is contrary to the long-term economic viability of the state.
(c)CA Education Code § 66351(c) California’s public and private higher education institutions have the opportunity to act as a catalyst in creating a new generation of elite business leaders that work to create a sustainable, ethical, and socially responsible global community.
(d)CA Education Code § 66351(d) It is, therefore, the intent of the Legislature to establish the Social Responsibility Business Leadership Initiative to prepare and inspire California business graduates to apply their business skills to enhance the productivity of the state, and integrate the discipline of corporate responsibility into the general management core.
