Article 3Conservation Education Library
Section § 8730
The Department of Education has a central library and storage area for conservation education materials. These materials can be created by private groups, industries, and various professional and government entities.
Section § 8731
This law section establishes that the library's main purpose is to provide resources for conservation education. It is meant to support the Conservation Education Service, public school districts, county school superintendents, and any regional conservation education centers that might be created.
Section § 8732
This law requires the department to look into innovative approaches for managing and sharing library resources. They should consider using new technology for handling data, improving library operations, and finding better ways to get educational materials to local school districts and educational centers focused on conservation.
Section § 8733
This law requires libraries to carefully assess new educational materials for accuracy, relevance, fairness, and practicality. The libraries must then inform the state board about these materials, specifically focusing on how they fulfill requirements related to conservation education when selecting textbooks.
Section § 8734
This law allows the Superintendent of Public Instruction to give grants to schools and educational institutions to help them develop conservation education programs and curriculum. These grants can be recommended by the Conservation Education Service and are available to individual schools, school districts, the University of California, state universities and colleges, and community colleges.
