Section § 6980.17
If you're applying for a locksmith license in California, you must fill out a form required by the state and pay an application fee. You need to provide your name, the business name you'll use, and the business address. You can't use a business name that sounds like a government or law enforcement agency or suggests you're doing something you're not. Also, the name can't be misleading or constitute false advertising.
Section § 6980.18
If you're applying for a license as an individual, partner, or corporate officer in a certain business, you need to submit a form with a recent photo, two sets of fingerprints for a background check, and personal details like your past addresses and job history. The fingerprints will be checked by the FBI. If you're using traditional fingerprint cards, there might be a processing fee of up to $3, unless you're using an electronic system.
Section § 6980.19
If you are an individual applying for a business license, you need to include your full name and home address in the application. You must also confirm that you will be directly managing the business. The application must be signed under the penalty of perjury, meaning you're legally declaring the information is true.
Section § 6980.20
If a partnership is applying for a license, they need to list the real names and addresses of all the general partners. They also have to name the partner who will manage the business. All general partners must sign the application, confirming the details under the threat of legal penalties for lying.
Section § 6980.21
If a corporation wants to get a license, it must list key officers with their addresses on the application and include its corporate ID number. The corporation must also name someone who will run the business and the application needs to be signed under oath. Additionally, someone who's been banned from the locksmith business or had a license revoked can't be in charge of the business.
Section § 6980.22
This law means that if someone applies for a new locksmith license, they won't be granted one if there's any ongoing disciplinary action against them or someone involved with their application. This applies whether the action is from this state or another state related to the locksmith business.
Section § 6980.23
This law requires that a pocket identification card be provided to certain individuals involved in a business, such as owners and officers. The design and information on this card are determined by the chief. The card must be made of strong material and can include security features. There's a charge for the card, but it won't be more than $6, which covers the cost of making and maintaining the card system.
Section § 6980.24
The director is responsible for providing licenses according to certain standards. Additionally, upon request and for a fee, a 'Certificate of Licensure' can be issued to license holders, which includes an official seal and a signature from the appropriate authority.
Section § 6980.25
If you apply for something and don't finish the process within a year, your application is considered abandoned, like it's never happened. If you want to apply again after that, it'll be treated like a fresh start.
Section § 6980.26
This law requires locksmiths to prominently display their license and current renewal certificate at their business location, branch offices, and in any mobile service vehicles. If a locksmith fails to do so, they can be fined $250 for each violation. The collected fines go into the Private Security Services Fund.
Section § 6980.27
Locksmith licenses in California expire at midnight on the last day of the month two years after they're issued, unless renewed. To renew, a locksmith must fill out a specific form, pay any outstanding fines that aren't being appealed, and pay a renewal fee. The Bureau may also manage a staggered renewal program to organize renewals. Licensees will receive a renewal notice from the Bureau at least 45 days before their license expires.
Section § 6980.28
Section § 6980.29
If your locksmith license is suspended in California, it still expires like any other license and needs to be renewed according to the usual process. However, even if you renew it, you can't work as a locksmith while it's suspended. To get back to work, you must wait until your suspension period is over. The authorities won't renew your license until this suspension is lifted.
Section § 6980.30
If a locksmith's license has been canceled, they can only get a new one by meeting all the requirements set for getting a first-time license.
Section § 6980.31
This law says that licenses given out according to this chapter can't be transferred to someone else.
Section § 6980.32
If you have a license, you're required to inform the bureau in writing within 30 days if you change where you live or work.
Section § 6980.33
If you're a licensed locksmith or a partner or officer of a locksmith business, you must always carry a special ID card and either your driver's license or a state-issued ID whenever you're working, even if you're not at the shop. You have to show these IDs while doing any locksmith work.
