Section § 18320

Explanation

This law allows a union high school district to set up and run a public library that shares knowledge about the arts, sciences, and general literature.

Any union high school district may establish, equip, and maintain a public library for the dissemination of knowledge of the arts, sciences, and general literature, in accordance with this chapter.

Section § 18321

Explanation

This law explains that when property is obtained for library use, the ownership of that property generally goes to the local district where the library is located, unless the terms of acquiring the property state otherwise.

The title to all property acquired for the purposes of the library, when not inconsistent with the terms of its acquisition, or not otherwise designated, vests in the district in which the library is, or is to be, situated.

Section § 18322

Explanation

This law states that all union high school libraries are free to use for local residents and nonresident taxpayers of the library district. However, the library trustees can set rules that must be followed. If someone breaks these rules, they can be fined or lose their library privileges.

Every union high school library established under this chapter shall be forever free to the inhabitants and nonresident taxpayers of the library district, subject always to such rules, regulations, and bylaws as may be made by the board of library trustees. For violations of any rule, regulation, or bylaw a person may be fined or excluded from the privileges of the library.
