Section § 872.410

Explanation
When a defendant responds to a complaint involving property, they must include any claim or interest they have in the property, challenge any statements in the complaint they disagree with, and if they want the property to be sold, explain clearly why a sale is justified.
The answer shall set forth:
(a)CA Civil Procedure Code § 872.410(a) Any interest the defendant has or claims in the property.
(b)CA Civil Procedure Code § 872.410(b) Any facts tending to controvert such material allegations of the complaint as the defendant does not wish to be taken as true.
(c)CA Civil Procedure Code § 872.410(c) Where the defendant seeks sale of the property, an allegation of the facts justifying such relief in ordinary and concise language.

Section § 872.420

Explanation

If someone is being sued and they have a lien, which is a legal claim, on a property, they need to include in their response when the lien was created, what type it is, and how much is still owed.

Where the defendant has or claims a lien on the property, the answer shall set forth the date and character of the lien and the amount remaining due thereon.

Section § 872.430

Explanation

This law allows a defendant to claim compensation or adjustments from others who might also be responsible, essentially enabling them to seek financial contributions from others involved.

The answer may set forth any claim the defendant has for contribution or other compensatory adjustment.
