Section § 1878

Explanation

When you deposit something with a depositary for exchange, the depositary becomes the owner of that item and owes you its value, turning your relationship into one of creditor and debtor.

A deposit for exchange transfers to the depositary the title to the thing deposited, and creates between him and the depositor the relation of debtor and creditor merely.
