Fuels and LubricantsSale of Motor Vehicle Fuels and Lubricants
Section § 13410
This law requires that companies extracting oil or gas, or making motor fuels in California, cannot deny selling fuel to cities or counties if it's needed for essential services like police, fire, health, or transportation. If a city or county applies for these fuels to perform essential services, the county's board can arrange the purchase and ensure it's fairly shared out among fuel sellers in the area. The distribution is based on each seller's sales over the last 90 days.
Section § 13411
This law makes it illegal to sell gas or other motor vehicle fuels by forcing buyers to also buy other products or services at the same time. However, it doesn't cover places where you pay for parking time and they also sell electricity for cars.
Section § 13413
This law is all about honesty in selling products like fuel or lubricants. It makes it illegal to lie or mislead people about things like quality, price, or discounts for these items. Some specific no-nos include saying a product has features or prices that it doesn't, advertising fuel types not available for sale, and promising discounts that aren't given. It also prohibits having confusing signs or ads and making fake documents related to sales.
