Section § 13470

Explanation

If you're selling fuel to people in California, you need to put clear labels on your pumps showing the total price per gallon or other measurement, which includes all taxes. For compressed or liquefied natural gas, signs must show the equivalent in gasoline or diesel gallons. If you offer a discount, it must be clearly shown with the amount of the discount in large letters. If you're using a unit of measure other than gallons, that needs to be plainly visible on the pump too.

Section § 13470.5

Explanation

This law requires anyone selling motor vehicle fuel, like gasoline, at retail in California using any pump and displaying the price per liter, to also show a clear conversion table from gallons to liters. This table must be visible to customers and comply with specific chapter rules.

Any person selling, offering for sale, or advertising for sale, at retail to the general public, any gasoline or other motor vehicle fuel from any place of business in this state by use of or through or from any dispensing apparatus and displaying any sign showing the total price per liter, shall, in addition, display in a conspicuous fashion in full view of the retail purchaser and in accordance with provisions of this chapter, a gallon-to-liter conversion table showing quantity and price equivalents.

Section § 13471

Explanation

This law mandates that gas stations must put signs on fuel pumps in a spot that's easy to see. If a pump can be used from different sides, the signs have to be visible from at least two sides of the pump.

Each sign required by this article shall be placed in a conspicuous place on the dispensing apparatus and if service of motor vehicle fuel may be made from more than one side of such dispensing apparatus the sign shall be so placed as to be visible from at least two sides of the dispensing apparatus.

Section § 13472

Explanation

If a gas station uses a sign with the price of fuel and sells the same type of fuel at different prices at the same location, it must show the price clearly on each pump, especially if some pumps sell the fuel for more. This means all price signs need to be just as visible and noticeable, no matter the price.

When a sign is used in addition to a price indicator, as defined in Section 13470, and if the same grade of motor vehicle fuel is sold at a different price from any other dispenser on the same premises, it shall be unlawful to display the sign on a dispenser unless a sign with price numerals of equal size is displayed upon each dispenser from which the same grade of motor vehicle fuel is dispensed at higher prices.

Section § 13473

Explanation

This law specifies that the letters and numbers on certain signs must be at least 0.75 inches tall, and the lines that make up these characters should be at least 0.125 inches wide. This is to ensure that the signs are easily legible.

Unless otherwise provided, all letters, figures, or numerals on each sign required by this article, however affixed, marked, imprinted, placed, or embossed, shall be at least three-fourths of an inch in height and all lines or marks used in the making or forming of all the letters, figures, or numerals which are a part of the sign shall be at least one-eighth of an inch in width.

Section § 13474

Explanation

This law requires that any letters and numbers on signs or price indicators must be easy to read. Additionally, the color of the text should stand out clearly from the background to ensure visibility.

All letters, figures, or numerals which are part of any sign or price indicator required by this article shall be plainly legible. The color or tint shall contrast with the background and other parts of the sign.

Section § 13475

Explanation
This law states that when this article talks about fractions, they should be counted as a single number.
For the purpose of this article, a fraction is considered one numeral.

Section § 13477

Explanation

This law says that the rules in this article do not cover situations where motor vehicle fuel is sold for aircraft using any kind of mobile or portable fuel dispenser.

The provisions of this article do not apply to the sale of motor vehicle fuel for aircraft through or from any portable dispensing device.
