Land SurveyorsGeneral Provisions
Section § 8700
This law states that the chapter can be called the Professional Land Surveyors' Act. Anytime another law mentions the Land Surveyors' Act, it should actually be understood as referring to this Act.
Section § 8701
This section defines a 'professional land surveyor' as someone who practices or offers to practice land surveying. Any time a law mentions a land surveyor, it specifically means a professional land surveyor.
Section § 8702
This law defines the term “Director” as the Director of Consumer Affairs.
Section § 8703
When the law talks about being in 'responsible charge of work' in land surveying, it means having the authority to independently manage and make decisions based on one's own skills, observations, and judgment. It's about leading the technical work, not about being financially liable.
Section § 8704
This law section says that someone is considered to be practicing land surveying if they claim to be a land surveyor or are in charge of land surveying work.
Section § 8705
In simple terms, a subordinate is someone who works under the direct supervision of a licensed land surveyor or registered civil engineer. This person helps out with land surveying tasks but doesn't take on any major responsibility for the work.
Section § 8706
This law section defines the term "Board" as the group responsible for overseeing professional engineers, land surveyors, and geologists.
Section § 8707
This section simply defines the term “executive officer” as the person who holds the position of executive officer of the board.
Section § 8708
To protect property and the public, only those who are licensed are allowed to practice land surveying or use titles like 'licensed land surveyor' in California. If you're not licensed or officially exempt, you cannot use these titles or do land surveying work.
