Registered Dispensing OpticiansSpectacle Lens Dispensing
Section § 2559.1
This law states that a person can't fit and adjust spectacle lenses unless they are registered or working under a registered professional's supervision. If an unregistered person is adjusting lenses, a registered optician must be present. However, the board won't penalize for missing supervision if the absence was due to unforeseen situations like emergencies or during legally required breaks or meal periods.
Section § 2559.2
If you want to become a registered spectacle lens dispenser, you need to apply using the proper forms and show that you've passed an exam by the American Board of Opticianry. If the board decides this exam isn't right, they can make up a new test. If you haven't worked full-time with lenses recently, you might have to take the test again. The board can deny your registration if there are grounds. Once registered, you'll get a certificate allowing you to work in places registered for eye care services, and this certificate must be visibly displayed at your workplace.
Section § 2559.3
If you have a certificate to dispense eyeglasses, it can be taken away if you break the rules, are incompetent, are very negligent, or are repeatedly careless. Also, if you're convicted of a felony, your certificate might be at risk. These cases follow specific government procedures.
Section § 2559.4
This law says that an assistant who helps fit glasses is not covered by certain rules if they are working directly under a doctor or optometrist who is responsible for fitting glasses for their patients.
